When Everything Turns Upside Down
Sitting in a hospital bed in Norway, Hillary was not sure if she would ever be able to run again. Earlier that day, she’d been doing what she loved - competing in a sky race, running along the mountains.
“I remember climbing the first major summit and doing some of these gnarly descents down a snowfield and down this rocky rooty trails ... And then in a moment everything just changed. The horizon was upside down.”
In this episode of Athletes Unfiltered, we talk to three athletes about the process of healing. Hillary Allen tells the story of how she went from that hospital bed, with multiple broken bones, to the top step of the podium. Chaz Davis recalls how he started to lose his sight as a freshman in college, until one day he was totally blind. But rather than derail him it leads to a new level of achievement. Finally, Kelly Roberts tells the story of how the loss of her brother sent her into a deep depression and how a running community helped her find her way back out.
