October 27, 2022 — Strava, the leading platform for over 100 million athletes and the largest sports community in the world, today reveals key segments and route data for the 2023 edition of the Tour de France and Tour Femmes avec Zwift.

The segments have been revealed alongside the route unveiling announced today by the Amaury Sport Organisation (ASO) at a major event at Palais des Congrès in Paris.

As the official partner of the Tour de France and the Tour de Femmes avec Zwift, Strava data and mapping has long underpinned the route planning for this iconic cycling event.

Other notable Strava segments of the Tour de France include:

Next year’s Tour is due to depart from the  – will start in the Spanish city of Bilbao on 1 July 2023.

Historically, the announcement of the Tour route has led to surges in attempts at key segments and climbs – on the Super Planche des Belles Filles segment, for example, in the 12 months following the announcement of the 2022 Tour route, almost three times more cyclists attempted  the climb than in the previous year.

Similarly, on the Alpe d’Huez segment, 1.7 times more cyclists – pros and amateurs – rode the climb in the 12 months following the 2022 route announcement than the year before.

The route announcement is part of the second year of Strava’s three year partnership with the Tour, but the shared history between the two goes back much further. For several years, the Tour de France course design teams have used Strava to help them create the race routes by analysing insights from millions of public Strava activity uploads.

Strava has long been a favourite digital platform of many professional riders in the peloton, where they upload their efforts to share with fans, media and the global community of athletes. In 2022, 80% of the Tour de France and 89% of the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift peloton were on Strava.

Notable riders on Strava from the 2022 Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift included:

Michael Horvath, Co Founder and CEO at Strava, said: “While this is the second year of our official partnership with the Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift, we have long shared a common history. Strava data and mapping tools have helped to inform the race routes for this iconic cycling event and we are proud to be the home for pro riders to share their efforts at the end of each stage.

“In 2022 alone, we saw 80% of the men’s peloton and 89% of the women’s peloton upload their race stages to Strava for fans around the world to follow. By releasing the headline segments for next year’s race, we hope to inspire our global community of over 100 million athletes to get out there and see what it takes to ride part of the world’s greatest cycling event.”

Next year’s Tour de France will take place from July 1 – 23, 2023 and the Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift will take place July 23-30, 2023.
