The future of gravel racing is here! We partnered with the Bahati Foundation to bring five young riders to SBT GRVL in Steamboat Springs, Colorado, one of the premiere gravel cycling events in North America. For most of the team, SBT would be their first experience racing on gravel. These incredible young athletes – Maize Wimbush, Sarah Vargas, Azyra Franklin, Nic Alonso and Yazeed Albadarin – did not just come to participate; they came to race! We followed their experience all weekend, from pre-race briefings to post-race interviews.
Sarah Vargas, a national champion in mountain biking, nabbed the top spot on the podium for the U18 female athletes on the red course, a 60 mile journey with 3600 feet of elevation gain.
The Future of Gravel Racing

Maize Wimbush and Azyra Franklin, national road racing champions, finished the red course in fine fashion, with a speedy sprint to the finish line.

Yazeed Albadarin and Nic Alonso set their sights on the black course, a hearty challenge with 140+ miles and 9200 feet of elevation gain. When strong thunderstorms pushed through mid-race, these young riders battled it out, with Nic overcoming a crash and Yazeed staging a powerful breakaway with 20 miles to go. Their hard work was rewarded with podium finishes for both: Yazeed secured the U18 male victory and Nic finished third.
