In twenty one days, the Strava community ran and rode a collective distance of 17.5 million kilometers and raised $58,683 for the Challenged Athletes Foundation (CAF). We met our distance fundraising goal three days before the end of the Challenge, which means GU Energy Labs will contribute $50,000 to CAF. An additional $8,683 was raised through sales of the limited edition tee.
Huge thanks to GU Energy Labs and kudos to the 71,538 athletes from around the world that turned pedals and made extra strides to support CAF. Your effort will make a huge impact on the athletes and community that CAF supports. To give you an example of what this money could provide and how it could be used by CAF:
– $58,683 means five young kids will receive running prosthetics and experience a lifetime of running and sports.
– $58,683 means 12 athletes with spinal cord injuries will receive hand cycles and experience the independence that cycling gives.
See Where You Made a Difference
To show just how global this fundraising effort was, we’ve created a heatmap showing all the Challenge activities. Participants represented 156 countries, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Brazil, Australia, Spain, France, Germany, Canada, Italy and the Netherlands. We suggest zooming in on your own city to see where your impact was made.
If you look closely at California, you can see an entire line down the coast from San Francisco to San Diego generated by the Challenged Athletes Foundation Million Dollar Challenge ride.
