The Latest from Strava – Indoor Trainer Rides and Individual Climbing Goals in KOM Challenge
We are happy to announce that Strava now supports indoor trainer rides. With snow in 47 of the contiguous 48 United States (hard to believe huh?), indoor training has become a necessity for many cyclists.
You can upload your stationary training with a Garmin Edge or Forerunner device. You do not need to have the GPS activated for Strava to recognize your workout. Strava will also display any heart rate, cadence, power or speed data captured from sensors by your Garmin device. If you are using a Powertap, you can add distance, cadence and speed to your workout as long as you have your wheel circumference dialed in accurately and ride with a resistance which feels similar to riding on the road.

We also improved the KOM Challenge home page, and added a personal climbing goal for everyone participating in the Challenge. You can set a monthly climbing target and then track your progress throughout the year. If you join the Challenge midway through the year, don’t worry – we pro-rate the yearly goal based on when you joined Strava.

Finally, many of you may have noticed the site becoming a bit sluggish at times over the last few weeks, especially during peak times on weekends. Our growing membership and the thawing winter (for some) have brought us a big increase in traffic. We’ve addressed several performance issues with this latest code push, and we added more server capacity as well – hurray for the cloud!
