Studio Velo KOM Challenge – February!
Our Studio Velo KOM Challenge just recently concluded its second month in action, and once again, we at Strava are shocked at the vert everyone is putting in! With a rough tally, all the KOM Challenge participants amassed over 15 million feet of climbing for the month. That’s over 2,800 miles of up – roughly the distance from San Francisco to New York! Now we just need to organize some sort of frequent climber miles program with the airlines…
February certainly stoked the competitive fires as well, with the closest battle in the Clubs category. MTBR.com and Mission Cycling went head to head, and both clearly saw it was coming down to the wire. There must have been some great coordination and effort on the part of each team, as MTBR and Mission successfully ramped up their daily climbing totals for the entirety of the final week! In the end, MTBR.com’s 1.45 million feet was enough to take the win, as they edged out Mission cycling’s 1.29 million.
In the men’s category, Brian Toone (Alabama Riders) was a man possessed! After finishing runner-up to Ryan Sherlock in January, he came back with a vengeance, amassing a higher monthly total (175.9k in February compared to 175.7k in January!!) in a month with 3 less days. Honorable mention goes to Febraury’s runner-up, Lang Reynolds (Hagens Berman Cycling Team), who put in a whopping 123k feet as well.
For the women, with over 61,ooo feet of climbing, the Australian Patti Whyte (Mornington Cycling Group) edged out Linda Jackson (Team Tibco) and Cheryl Shwe (RED Racing) to get the February QOM. And finally, in the shop category, the event sponsors at Studio Velo defended their January crown for a repeat victory in February, adding another 800,o00 feet. Well done everyone. And for those of us in the Northern Hemisphere… spring and summer are on the way!
