Upload Runs, Skiing and Other Activities Keeping them Separate From Your Ride Data
You can now upload and view activities other than rides on Strava. Strava is still dedicated to cycling. But cyclists do other activities too and now you can capture them with Strava. By default, uploads are rides. But if you would like to upload an activity that is not a ride, simply select a different activity type from the drop-down at upload. You can edit the activity type on any upoad later as well on its detail page. Your cummulative statistics will appear separately for other activities, so they won’t interfere with your cycling data. There are a few differences in what Strava shows for other activities. For example, Strava doesn’t calculate watts and points. But you still get mapping, elevation, and most other stats. To get started, get out there and run or ski and then upload it to Strava.
Invite your friends and you both win big
Now when you invite a friend through Strava, your friend gets $5 off a Strava subscription and you get a free month of Strava when your friend subscribes. Invite more, get more! To get started, log into Strava
and click on “Invite Your Friends” near the top of any page. You can email invitations to multiple friends at once, and send them personalized messages. Your friends will get your message and a link to www.strava.com where they can create an account and try Strava for free just like you did. You can also keep track of your friends as they register and subscribe to Strava all on the Invite-Your-Friends page.
Privacy Areas
Location-based web services like Strava are great… except if you are concerned about your privacy when you are out and about. We have added Privacy functionality to your account settings (log into Strava and click on “Edit Your Account” or your first name near the top of any page and then click on the Privacy tab). You can now create private zones on Strava that will always be hidden on a ride map viewed by you or others. If you ride to and from your home or office regularly, you can enter these addresses and define a circular area around them that you want hidden on any map of your rides. Your ride stats are not affected by privacy settings, just the view of where you ride.
Strava goes metric and other improvements
- If you prefer kilometers and kilograms over miles and pounds, you can set this preference on your Profile settings under “Edit Your Account”.
- You can now upload pictures of your bikes. Click on any of your bikes on your home page to get started.
- Need to change the bike on an already uploaded ride? Now you can! Click on the pen icon next to the current bike name on the ride detail page.
- We have moved to a cloud computing environment for storing all your ride data. This should make failed uploads due to low memory a thing of the past.
Now get out there and do a ride (or a run… or a XC ski…)
