Connect your Strava to Facebook & Twitter with Facebook Connect and Twitter Integration
Using Facebook Connect you can now link your Strava and Facebook accounts. Look for the button “Login with Facebook” under the usual login area to get started. Once you do this, you can login to Strava with one click. You can also set preferences for automatically updating your Facebook account or Twitter page everytime you upload a ride. To do this, go to the Sharing tab under Edit your Account in the small nav bar. Or just click on the Facebook icon next to your name once you have turned on Facebook Connect.
Gear Management
Strava wants to help you keep in great shape- but not just you, your bike and bike components, too. If you have wanted to keep track of just how many miles you have on those tires or chain, we are building out some tools you should check out. On your home page, click on any one of your bikes to get started. You can enter as much or as little information as you like. For more instructions on what’s there and how to use it, check out the new FAQs. Over the next several releases we will be improving the functionality and UI of this feature set so we encourage your comments on support.strava.com.
Other Improvements
We have added improved caching and fixed a few bugs (310XT upload issues, empty laps causing errors, empty trackpoints causing errors and more). In an effort to improve scalability as we add more athletes to Strava (e.g. fix intermittent memory issues when processing Garmin 500 files), we have started a migration of our server infrastructure to EngineYard. We should be bringing the power of cloud computing to you very soon.
Strava is hiring – we need you (or someone you know)!
We are looking for a front-end software engineer. If you, or someone you know is interested in learning more, check out the Jobs page on our blog. We’ll give a Strava t-shirt to anyone who helps us find a candidate we interview. If you introduce us to the one we hire, make that a full Strava kit and a subscription to Strava for life!
Enjoy and happy riding to all who can during these rainy (West) and cold (just about everywhere else) days.
Strava is hiring!
Front-end Software Engineer
Strava is looking to expand our small team in San Francisco with an engineer to focus on front-end development. We’ve got the passionate user base; we’ve got the rich data back-end and infrastructure to enable social networking; we now want to fine-tune the UI design to take the Strava user experience to the next level. This is a unique opportunity for a front-end developer to leave their mark on a rapidly growing consumer website.

Expanded Device Support, Invite Friends, Improved Athlete Page & More: Strava Launches with Sprint 12!
Happy 2010!! We are kicking off the new year with a code push today. Here is what you should be seeing now at http://www.strava.com.
- Compatibility with Forerunner and Edge GPS devices
- New tour page with screen shots
- Improved Athlete Home page
- ‘Invite Your Friends’ functionality
- New clubs search functionality
- Improved performance
- Strava launches with two plan options
Compatibility with all Garmin Forerunner and Edge GPS devices
You can now upload files to Strava from all Garmin Forerunner and Edge GPS devices. Intially there will be some limitatins for non-barimetric altimeter devices (devices other than Edge 305, 705, and the new 500). Since we can’t get accurate elevation we won’t be calculating watts or points or attempting to detect new climbs. We’ll still match existing climbs to your rides, so if you’re riding in an area with other Strava riders than your experience will be nearly the same (e.g. you can compete for KOMs, etc). If you’re riding in a new area we realize the experience won’t be as good, as there won’t be existing climbs and segments on which to compete! We’ll be addressing these shortcomings soon by enhancing your altitude data. Also coming soon… file upload from iPhones!
New tour page with screen shots
We have created a simple way for anyone to learn about Strava’s features and benefits. Our new tour page, accessed from our landing page, presents Strava in simple descriptions and actual screen shots. Have a look – you might learn something about Strava you didn’t already know!
Improved Athlete Home page
We have added an area called ‘Your Group Views’ to your Athlete Home page. This now gives you quick access to ride activity for the Strava Groups you have joined as well as ride activity around your home region. You can set or change your home region on the ‘Profile’ tab under ‘Edit your Account’.
‘Invite Your Friends’ functionality
Now you can email your cycling friends to invite them to join Strava directly from your Strava account. Just click on the link ‘Invite Your Friends‘ under the top nav bar to get started. You can easily customize an invitation email and send it to one or more addresses. Strava will track whether your friends have joined Strava yet so you will know when you can start comparing rides together.
New club search functionality
In addition to searching for rides, riders and climbs by various characteristics, you can now search for Strava Clubs. Try it to find Strava Clubs you might want to join or to give you ideas for clubs you want to create on Strava. When you join or create a Strava Club you will be able to see ride, climb, and segment comparisons just within the Strava Club.
Improved Performance
We’ve improved the speed of loading athlete home pages and ride pages. Things were getting a bit slow, hopefully you can tell it’s a bit snappier. The first time you hit a page it might feel the same, but subsequent loads should be faster.
Strava launches with two plan options
Strava has officially moved out of Beta. You can learn about our two plan options – Annual and Seasonal – by clicking here or on the “Join Now!” link after you have logged in to your account. If you have not paid for a plan at this point, we want to make sure you know what to expect from Strava going forward:
- Your account will remain active and you will have full access to all your ride data.
- You will still be able to search for rides and riders in your area and see who is hitting the roads and trails.
- You will also have a number of remaining uploads available to you.
- You will be able to activate a paid Annual or Seasonal plan at any time.
In addition to what we’ve already mentioned, we have a bunch of great stuff in the works, including:
- Bike equipment management
- Improved Twitter and Facebook integration
- Stream-lined uploads, including notifications like “You set a new PR!”
- Additional ways to slice and aggregate your data (we’ll always be making improvements here)
…and much more.
Even though our Beta period is over, you can expect a continued commitment to innovation at Strava. We look forward to serving you in 2010 and for many years to come.
